Name and date of creation: Socialist Union of Popular Forces (SUPF) in 1975.
Transcription: Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki Lil Qouwwat Ach Chaabia.
History:
- The left claims of the National Union of Popular Forces (NUPF) and the violent reaction of the state against the protesting leaders made the party evolve, and the current SUPF was created in 1975.
- Omar BENJELLOUN, one of the party’s founders and an important trade union militant was assassinated the same year, on December 18th.
- The party leaders were arrested in 1981 with those of the Democratic Confederation for Work, their building was besieged and the SUPF’ press prohibited after the general strike due to the price rise of elementary food products.
- In 1998, the alternation government was formed by his majesty late Hassan II, with on its head Abderrahman YOUSSOUFI, the general secretary of the SUPF. And that was the announcement of a new era.
Political orientations:
The SUPF is a left party. Despite its progressist ideas and a call to equality and social justice, its speech remains moderate enough for a socialist party.
